Chapel Hill
Chapel Hill is the home of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hil. UNC Chapel Hill is famous for two things: basketball and the UNC Health Care System. Michael Jordan is just one of the many great players to come out of UNC, and many other notable people attended school there, including Coach Wiliams, Mayor Howard Lee, Andy Griffith, Charles Kuralt, and Thomas Wolfe, to name just a few.
Chapel Hil is part of the Research Triangle Park that began in 1959, and it plays a significant role there. The prestigious UNC Healthcare System is comprised of NC Memorial, NC Women's, NC Children's, NC Neurosciences, and NC Cancer Hospitals.
Some of the atractions in Chapel Hil are the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, the Old Well, Ackland Art Museum, Carolina Basketball Museum, and the Carolina Inn-which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Chapel Hill has received accolades in multiple national magazines, including being named as "America's Foodiest Small Town." The town is host to many festivals and festivities such as an Annual North Carolina Comedy Festival, Tar Heel 10 Miler, July 4th Fireworks Display, Health on the Block, UNC Science Expo, Festifall, and a three-day food event, TerraVita Food and Drink Festival. Live music is also a vital part of the downtown scene, as are the bars, breweries and a distillery called Top of the Hill that makes its own spirits, including Organic Carolina Moonshine Whiskey, Gin, and Vodka.
